A 12-year-old youngster has died after a shooter opened hearth at a main school in Finland at the beginning of classes.

Three youngsters, all aged 12, have been reported wounded on the Viertola main faculty in the city of Vantaa, north of the capital, Helsinki.

It was later confirmed that one of the pupils has died after this morning's assault. Two others sustained critical injuries.

Police have been referred to as to the varsity at eight.08am UK time to reviews of photographs being fired inside the building.

A suspect – who can also be a minor, aged 12 – was detained by armed police on the scene.

The varsity has round 800 students from first to ninth grade, in accordance with local studies.

Finnish broadcaster MTV Uutiset reported emergency providers – together with armed cops – have been on the scene.

A number of the youngsters reportedly hid through the capturing, whereas others who had been contacted by their mother and father on cell phones stated they saw what happened.

'The quick danger is over,' the Viertola faculty's principal Sari Laasila stated but declined to comment further on the incident.

A police spokesperson confirmed that each one victims have been taken to a hospital. Several ambulances remain on the scene.

Inside Minister Mari Rantanen stated on X: 'The day started in a horrifying method… I can solely think about the ache and fear that many families are experiencing in the mean time. The suspected perpetrator has been caught.'

Prime Minister Petteri Orpo stated the capturing was deeply surprising.

'My thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones and the opposite college students and employees,' he tweeted.
