Val Kilmer battled throat cancer just years before his tragic death at age of 65. The Top Gun and Batman Forever actor died on Tuesday, April 1. A death certificate released by the Los Angeles County Department of Health one week later confirmed his cause of death as pneumonia. Kilmer previously confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter in December 2017 that he had been battling cancer for the past two years, after initially denying reports about his illness.
