About Our Ads Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement The UFC handed out four bonuses after Saturday's card in Canada, which had 11 straight stoppages to open up, and a record-tying 12 in 13 fights.
After UFC Fight Night 291, four fighters picked up an extra $100,000 for their performances at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta. Additionally, eight fighters got $25,000 extra checks for finishes that weren't bonus-winners.
Mike Malott (15-2-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) threw an absolutely sickening right knee that caught Joaquin Buckley (21-9 MMA, 11-7 UFC) on the jaw. Buckley's mouthpiece went flying across the cage and he was almost certainly out before he hit the canvas face first. But Malott dropped a bomb on him to make sure it was done in the welterweight headliner in front of his home Canada fans.
Marc-Andre Barriault (18-11 MMA, 7-10 UFC) had some struggles early against Kyle Daukaus (17-6 MMA, 4-6 UFC), but when they got in close, the Canadian landed some big elbows along the fence to the side of Daukaus' head – and that seemed to turn the tide. Before long, the 36-year-old had a Marc-Andre Barriault def. Kyle Daukaus via TKO (punches) – Round 1, 4:28 .
Mandel Nallo (15-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) put on a stellar striking performance against longtime UFC fighter Nate Landwehr (18-9 MMA, 5-7 UFC), who looked absolutely overmatched. Nallo attacked his leg plenty, and that ultimately led to an early second-round knockdown and quick finish after that. But Landwehr left the cage with his face all kinds of bloodied up, too, from ex-Bellator fighter Nallo's first UFC win.
Joel Faglier (7-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) got lit up in the first round by fellow UFC newcomer Javad Mahjoub (5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC), who got a 10-8 round from two of the judges. But Mahjoub also absolutely punched himself out, and barely could get to his stool for the second round. Faglier and his corner knew it, and it didn't take long for him to steal all the momentum for what turned out to be a relatively easy second-round TKO comeback .
Cristian Perez (16-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) wasted no time in his UFC debut against Kyle Nelson (17-8-1 MMA, 5-7-1 UFC). He got touched by the Canadian quickly, but after flirting with a takedown, he instead landed a knee, then poured on the punches along the fence. When Nelson hit the canvas, Perez pounded him into unconsciousness for the finish in just 27 seconds. The stoppage was the 11th straight at the event – and the fastest and most impressive of the night.
Timmy Cuamba (11-4 MMA, 3-3 UFC) put on a flawless performance against Louis Jourdain (9-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC), the brother of longtime UFC fighter Charles Jourdain. He used his striking to get there, and once the fight hit the canvas, he wrapped up a tight body triangle and cinched in a rear-naked choke – the first submission win of his career.
Tanner Boser (23-11-1 MMA, 6-6 UFC) dominated Jhonata Diniz (9-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) with a suffocating performance, and kept the pressure on deep into the third round and finally got a TKO finish . It kept the night perfect with seven finishes in seven fights.
Nick Galanti (9-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) was the biggest betting favorite on the card at 7-1, and he showed why. He took down Julien Leblanc (10-4 MMA, 0-2 UFC) with ease on his first shot, then worked his way for a rear-naked choke that turned into a painful face crank that forced Leblanc to tap.
Katlyn Cerminara (19-6 MMA, 12-6 UFC) needed a little bit of time to get her footing in her first fight back after 31 months away, during which time she became a mother. But she eventually drilled Mackenzie Stiller (6-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) with a knee, then a head kick and poured on the punishment with a barrage of punches to get the finish with 14 seconds left in the first round . She snapped a two-fight skid, to boot, for her first win since May 2022.
In his first fight in nearly four years, Steven Koslow (7-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) looked dominant against Chad Anheliger (13-9 MMA, 2-4 UFC) through the first two rounds. Then in the third, he put the Canadian away with a rear-naked choke, which kept his submission rate at 100 percent .
Chelsea Chandler (8-4 MMA, 4-3 UFC) was a hefty underdog against Canada's Melissa Croden (8-4 MMA, 2-2 UFC), who was a 4-1 betting favorite in their flyweight fight. But Chandler bloodied her in the opening round, and then pulled off a second straight kimura to open the event – and appeared to have done some serious damage to Croden's shoulder.
SuYoung You (17-4 MMA, 3-1 UFC) slowly grinded Cody Chovancek (9-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) down over 14 minutes, then finally forced him to tap to a nasty mounted kimura in the final minute of their bantamweight curtain jerker. It was his sixth career submission.
