(Reuters) -Colgate-Palmolive cut its annual sales forecast on Friday, in a sign that rising economic uncertainty is reducing consumer spending on higher-priced items, even in essential categories such as oral and personal care.

The maker of Colgate toothpaste and Palmolive soap has been raising prices in most markets to counter the impact of U.S. tariffs, pushing shoppers towards cheaper alternatives.

While prices rose 2.3% during the third quarter, volumes fell 1.9%, compared to a year ago.

"Consumers still remain relatively weak across North America," said CEO Noel Wallace during the post-earnings call, adding that discount seeking is up, Hispanic traffic remains down and the U.S. household products category performance in September was softer than expected and weaker than prior months.

The company said it has also been taking a hit in Canada from the "Buy Canadian" movement, along with weaker demand in other regions, including Colombia, Central America as well as India.

Colgate said it continues to expect an impact of about $75 million from tariff-related costs.

The company imports raw materials such as vitamins and amino acids and makes toothpaste for the U.S. market in Mexico.

To fend off stiff competition from cheaper private-label brands, Colgate has ramped up its advertising and marketing efforts.

The company's quarterly adjusted gross profit margin decreased 190 basis points to 59.4% due to a hit from soaring costs related to raw and packaging materials.

Peer Procter & Gamble reported an upbeat quarter as consumers continued to pay higher prices for its beauty and hair-care products.

Colgate now expects annual organic sales growth to be 1% to 2%, after estimating it to be at the low end of a 2% to 4% rise.

Shares of the company were marginally down in morning trading.

"Given the stock underperformance, we think investors were already bracing for a reduction in guidance," said Andrea Teixeira, analyst with J.P.Morgan.

It posted quarterly net sales of $5.13 billion, in line with analysts' estimates, as per data compiled by LSEG.

Quarterly adjusted profit of 91 cents per share was above estimates of 89 cents per share.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. grocers and food companies ranging from Walmart (WMT) to Smithfield Foods (SFD) are bracing for a dip in November sales if federal food aid benefits lapse for the first time due to the ongoing government shutdown.

The shutdown has imperiled next month's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as food stamps, which serves nearly 42 million people.

Neither Congress nor the U.S. Department of Agriculture has acted to fund the benefits beyond Saturday.

The gap could mean an $8 billion revenue drop for grocers, declining sales for their suppliers and reduced hours for workers as it drives SNAP recipients to reduce spending, trade groups, companies and a union said this week.

"It's not only poor people who are on SNAP who are going to be affected. It means the places where they spend the money aren't going to get that money," said Marion Nestle, a professor emerita of health, nutrition and food studies at New York University.

The National Grocers Association said on Wednesday that Congress should reopen the government and fund SNAP to avoid instability for customers and retailers, warning of "serious consequences for local grocers, their employees, and the food supply chain."

"Retailers are going to be in a terrible situation here trying to manage costs and inventory," said Rob Karr, president and CEO of the Illinois Retail Merchants Association, adding stores could see unsold perishable goods go to waste.

A USDA spokesperson called the benefit lapse "an inflection point for Senate Democrats." The agency has repeatedly blamed Democrats for the shutdown, most of whom have withheld votes on a spending bill in an attempt to keep healthcare costs from spiking for many Americans.

Nearly 267,000 retailers are authorized to accept SNAP and they collect $96 billion each year, or $8 billion a month, in benefits, according to USDA data.

About 75% of all SNAP benefits are used at supermarkets and superstores, rather than smaller retailers like bodegas, the data shows.

Walmart, the biggest U.S. retailer, takes the biggest share of the funds, capturing about 26.1% of all of the grocery spend from the program, according to research firm Numerator.

The big-box store, along with smaller rivals like Dollar General and Dollar Tree, could see its sales in the fourth quarter fall by less than 1% compared to last year if the payments do not go through, and depending how long the shutdown continues to last, according to a note sent Tuesday by research firm Bernstein.

Walmart declined to comment. Dollar General and Dollar Tree did not respond to requests for comment.

Retailers are also navigating other policy issues, like the USDA's September proposal to change stocking requirements for stores that accept SNAP, and cuts to the food aid program from Trump's July tax-cut and spending bill, said Alex Baloga, president and CEO of the Pennsylvania Food Merchants Association.

The impact of lapsed benefits on grocery prices is hard to predict, but some retailers could respond to a drop in sales by raising prices in an attempt to protect thin margins, said David Ortega, professor of food economics at Michigan State University.

"Especially if you're looking at a small-size grocery store in a low income area, this is quite concerning for them," Ortega said.

The United Food and Commercial Workers Union, which represents grocery retail and food manufacturing workers, said in a statement that their members "could see a reduction in hours and wages if SNAP dollars aren't available to be spent in their stores or on their products."

Packaged food companies like Kraft Heinz, J M Smucker, General Mills and Tyson Foods, which supply grocery stores, could also take a sales hit in November of a couple of percentage points, the Bernstein note said.

The companies did not respond to requests for comment.

Smithfield Foods, the largest U.S. pork processor, said on Tuesday that it factored in potential impacts of delayed SNAP benefits as it raised its fiscal year 2025 operating profit outlook for other reasons.

Across the U.S. food industry, about 7.5% of dollars are tied to SNAP usage in categories in which Smithfield sells products, though suspended benefits would have a relatively minor impact on the company, executives said. The company also said it was working with retailers to promote affordable products.

"Obviously, it's something that we're focused on, something we're paying a lot of attention to because it does affect 40 million households in the U.S.," CEO Shane Smith said in an interview.

Kraft Heinz has tried to lower its exposure to the SNAP program in part to reduce volatility from potential cuts. It saw sales falter in 2023 after the end of expanded SNAP benefits tied to the COVID-19 pandemic.

CEO Carlos Abrams-Rivera said in June that the maker of Heinz baked beans and Kraft macaroni-and-cheese reduced its exposure to purchases made with SNAP from 20% three years ago to 13% in June.

Kraft Heinz declined to comment.

In a new interview with Marie Claire, the philanthropist and mom of three said that she's had the same standing Monday morning date for 30 years now

"We're strict about it," she said

Mondays can get a bad wrap, but for Melinda French Gates, there's always something to look forward to.

In a new interview with Marie Claire as part of their 2025 Changemakers Issue, the 61-year-old philanthropist opened up about a weekly tradition that's been going on for decades now.

"For the past 30 years, I've kept a standing date on Monday mornings to go walking with three of my best friends. We're strict about it. If you're in town, you're there," said French Gates.

"I call them my truth council, because we consult each other about almost every major decision in our lives. That word truth is key," she added. "I have to be willing to tell them the truth about what I'm thinking and feeling. And then I know that they'll tell me the truth, even if it's a hard one I won't want to hear."

The mom of three said she particularly leaned on her friends while preparing for the start of a new chapter in her life, which included stepping away from the Gates Foundation to focus on her own philanthropy through Pivotal Ventures.

"I knew I could have more impact by stepping away to focus on other issues, many of which were outside the foundation's scope. As I kept seeing women's rights rolled back, I started to think differently about the last chapter of my career," she told the magazine. "I am simply not willing to accept that my granddaughters could grow up with less freedom than I did."

"My intention is to help even the playing field," she added. "I am going to spend the rest of my life trying to get more power in women's and girls' hands."

After she left the foundation she co-founded with ex husband Bill Gates, she pledged $1 billion in support of women in the Unites States — a commitment she previously told PEOPLE she made "because I believe [in this work] so strongly."

"I believe the only responsible thing to do with these resources is to give it away — as thoughtfully and impactfully as possible," she added. "One of my core values has always been to whom much is given, much is expected."

Elaine Hendrix is sharing an update on her health after missing the Oct. 28 episode of Dancing with the Stars due to a rib injury

That morning, she was rushed to the hospital despite worrying about not being able to perform that night's routine

Hendrix says she is "grateful" fans voted to keep her in the running for another week, and she is "1000% determined" to stay in the competition

When Elaine Hendrix sets her mind to something, nothing can stop her.

Three days after The Parent Trap alum, 54, was rushed to the hospital for a rib injury while rehearsing for that night's episode of Dancing with the Stars, she tells PEOPLE she's doing whatever it takes to stay in the competition.

"I'm just hoping again to go all the way, because I want to keep showing what I can do," Hendrix explains. "I'm taking care of the injuries, but I've made it really clear to [partner] Alan [Bersten] that unless it's just something I absolutely can't do, we're not holding back. We'll get the pain managed, and I just want to keep going for it."

Thinking back to the morning of the incident, Hendrix says that while she knew she had bruised her ribs a week prior to her hospitalization, everything was going fine until she began experiencing a pain that was "nothing like" anything she felt before.

"That day literally took my breath away," she recalls. "In that moment, I thought something very, very serious had happened, and I could barely breathe. I almost passed out. I couldn't move without just a searing pain going through me. It was so sweet because everyone — apparently, I was really out of it — really rallied around me."

"All I could think of was like, 'Okay, what do we do to get me up and going? I got to dance tonight,' " she continues. "And they're like, 'Oh no, honey, you got to go to the hospital.' And I'm like, 'No, no, no, no, no, no,' and I'm begging them not to take me to the hospital, but it's good they did."

Her "bestie" Lisa Ann Walter immediately drove to meet her at the hospital, as did Bersten, who Hendrix says was "beside himself" with worries about her well-being. He later returned to the studios for the live show, where a video of their only full rehearsal in the ballroom was played, garnering an "outpouring of love" from the cast, judges and fans.

"That was a real boost for me and just made me feel so good," Hendrix shares.

She also appreciated that the audience recognized her commitment to the competition, saying that the fans' recognition of her hard work, along with her costumes, hair, and makeup, made her feel "the best of all."

"That made me feel the best of all because I was like, 'Oh, then I've really been doing my job. I've really been doing what I wanted to do,' which was perform everything to the fullest," she says. "So that has translated, and that to me was probably the biggest gift I could have gotten from this situation."

Tearing up, Hendrix then admits that she and Walter were anxious all night as they waited from her hospital bed to see if she and Bersten would be safe to continue into the next week.

"I get really emotional because I was really scared that I was going to be going home and that was not the note that I wanted to end on," she says. "When I was notified that we made it through, we both just started sobbing and laughing and crying and it was a real moment. I'm grateful."

Hendrix has since been cleared by doctors, and while she reveals they speculate she has a strain or muscle tear, she knows "nothing is fractured, nothing's broken, nothing is punctured."

After two days off, she returned to rehearsals on Friday, Oct. 31, and says she is ecstatic to be back in the ballroom come Tuesday.

"I'm like, 'Okay, I can deal with this,'" she notes. "I know now what the most excruciating level is and we've just got to do everything possible for me not to get to that level again. And so I started the next day — I've gone in, I've been doing all the tests and I'm doing physical therapy and I'm on a very involved protocol and I am 1000% determined. I was determined before. Now it's just through the roof."

"One way or another, I just knew that I was going to fight through it," she adds.

Robert Englund gets his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

He's way beyond Elm Street now.

Robert Englund, the actor known for chillingly portraying the razor-gloved bad guy Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, found a new home Friday when he was inducted onto the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He accepted the 2,826th star from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

The crowd chanted "Freddy!" as Englund took the mic at the perfectly timed ceremony. He thanked those who'd helped him over his 50-year career, which has also included appearances on TV's Stranger Things and The Goldbergs, as well as movies such as Urban Legend.

Appropriately for Halloween, Englund ended his acceptance speech with a hearty "Trick or f‑‑‑ing treat!"

Fans dressed as Freddy Krueger at Robert Englund's Hollywood Walk of Fame induction ceremony

Heather Langenkamp, who played protagonist Nancy Thompson in several of the Elm Street movies, was one of the speakers. And she lauded the classically trained actor's professionalism.

She said Englund was "always rehearsing until they rolled the camera. He would work on his right shoulder dipping a little lower than his left. The glove, always ready to slash you at a given moment."

The first time she saw Englund in costume as the villainous Freddy was "terrifying," Langenkamp recalled. "The take goes along and Robert Englund raises his glove, and he says, 'This is God.' It was blasphemous. It was hideous. It was so evil. It sent chills up every spine in that back alley, and, for the first time, I realized, 'holy s‑‑‑, I'm in a slasher movie.'"

The actress said Englund has made left a mark on his genre that even a century from now, audiences will be familiar with his work.

She also quoted one of Freddy's signature lines: "Welcome to prime time, bitches!"

Along with Langenkamp, director Eli Roth, who worked with Englund on the 2005 horror comedy 2001 Maniacs, took the mic and noted that spending All Hallow's Eve with Englund was perfect.

He lauded the actor as "a man who truly understands how to find the humanity, even in a monster."

Get your daily dose of entertainment news, celebrity updates, and what to watch with our EW Dispatch newsletter.

Roth said Freddy is the character kids always name when you ask them to think of horror icons.

"Freddy is always first!" he insisted. "Always. That is no accident. Freddy Krueger was the first time a killer in a slasher movie spoke. Up until then, slashers were silent assassins or a breather. Avatars for the unstoppable force of death. But Robert made death fun! Just so f‑‑‑ing fun."

Jinkx Monsoon swept up the *RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 7 *crown thanks in large part to her *Snatch Game* performance as Judy Garland, but one question about the legendary impersonation has endured for puzzled fans and judges alike: Why did she (hilariously) refer to RuPaul as "Broom" during the challenge?

The season 5 winner revealed that the joke wasn't intended to be understood by anyone other than Alyssa Edwards and Alaska, her drag sisters from her original season on the show, which aired in 2013.

"Alaska and I were constantly doing impressions of Alyssa Edwards' [*Snatch Game*] impersonation of Katy Perry that was so baffling that we couldn't help but just make a whole character based on just that impression. Alyssa Edwards' voice is already extremely unique, and then her voice trying to do Katy Perry was just more Alyssa than even Alyssa normally talks," Jinkx said on Thursday's episode of Vulture's *Good One* podcast. "We kept joking that, as Katy Perry, when Ru asks Alyssa, 'Have you ever kissed a girl?' and Alyssa went, 'Ru, never!' [it became] 'Bru,' and then it just devolved into 'Broom, neber," so when I called Ru 'Broom,' it was the tiniest little Easter egg, pretty much just for Alaska."

Jinkx's iconic *Snatch Game* performance did more than just cleanse the souls of weary *Drag Race* fans: It also absolved the queen's season 5 makeover subject, veteran soldier Dave Lara, of his self-proclaimed role in Garland's death after he made the stunning revelation in the Werk Room back in 2013.

During her performance on *All Stars 7*, Jinkx made a direct address to Lara by telling him that he was "not responsible" for Garland's death. In a subsequent interview with EW, Lara explained that, upon meeting the iconic actress at a Boston speakeasy in November 1968, he provided her with barbiturates shortly before she died the following year.

"I don't want to be judged by people. I don't want to be castigated or made out to be the villain. Ru and I had a conversation on the show where she said [Judy] did a lot to get to this place. Judy had a choice, and, like *The Matrix*, you can take the blue pill and go to sleep and wake up in the morning and never remember any of this, or you can take the red pill and go down the rabbit hole and never come out. She made that choice," Lara said. "Whether I allowed or contributed to that, she was so clever, she would've found the pills anyway. That made me feel a little better, but people don't know about that time. We were stupid, we were ignorant. Giving someone with an addiction pills? I've never given anyone pills or drugs or anything since."

BenDeLaCreme threw a (loving) banana peel under Jinkx Monsoon's tires as she prepared to compete on *RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 7*.

The season 6 and *All Stars 3* alum exclusively tells EW's BINGE podcast (below) that she helped shape elements of her longtime friend and collaborator's *AS7* runway collection, particularly her porcupine gown for the Spikes on the Runway theme which, according to DeLa, almost looked very, *very* different.

"I actually designed that porcupine outfit, I just drew out a picture for her because I was like, Jinkx, you cannot do the thing you're planning on, which is that she she was going to dress like the spiky tortoise shell from *Mario Kart*. I was like, if you do that, we're over, that is it. I'm breaking up with you. So, I made her a porcupine idea!" DeLa says. "It's like a thing you throw in *Mario Kart*. I was like, Jinkx, this is such an arbitrary reference and also just the worst color combination."

DeLa says that she and Jinkx worked on other looks she debuted on *All Stars 7* as well, mostly chatting through ideas and concepts.

"I'm so glad that we spent the time brainstorming, because we talked about doing multiple seasons like Jaida did. She wanted to do an *Into the Woods* witch and I was like, I think someone else is going to do it," DeLa recalls. "I'm so glad that we talked through those ideas and she didn't wind up doing the same thing."

Since competing on separate seasons of *Drag Race*, Jinkx and DeLa have worked together to successfully snatch the Christmas crown from Santa across multiple projects, including their traveling *To Jesus, Thanks for Everything* and *All I Want for Christmas Is Attention* tours, guest roles in Clea DuVall's Kristen Stewart-starring Christmas rom-com *Happiest Season*, and a film version of *The Jinkx & DeLa Holiday Show*, which streamed on Hulu through Christmas in 2020. They return to the stage for *The Jinkx & DeLa Holiday Show* 2022 tour later this year.

Their work outside of *Drag Race* speaks for itself, but they're also not entirely opposed to competing again — as long as they do it together.

"The answer is, I guess, like, sure, I don't know!" DeLa says when asked about the ongoing fan fantasy involving a "Best Friends" edition of *Drag Race*. "It's not something that either of us are campaigning for. I do think it could be fun, but I would need a contractual guarantee that the same [non-elimination] rules as* All Stars 7 *apply."

"After all I've contributed to the tournament and been an ambassador for them, I can't go and have a practice round there with my three grandchildren…It's terribly, terribly sad," said Gary Player, as he was surprised by the mistreatment he received at Augusta National. A three-time Masters Tournament champion, he has always had issues with the course management. And the Black Knight reiterated the same moments before he celebrated his 90th birthday.

Speaking to Adam Schupak from Golfweek, he was asked what legacy he would like to leave behind upon his passing. Player told Schupak, "I hope I'm the head pro at Augusta. But they won't let me play a single round with my three grandchildren, so they're not going to let me be the head pro there." Perplexed by the issue, the reporter asked why that was the case. Player replied, "That's something you have to ask Augusta, not me."

For a fact, it's not like Gary Player is not an honorary member of Augusta National. The Big Three achieved that honor a long time back. But, as he had explained in his previous interviews, every time he approached them to book a tee time to play with his grandchildren, Augusta National always came up with an excuse to turn him down. Eventually, Player just gave up and realized that he is not welcome on the iconic course, despite being an honorary member.

In fact, his animosity towards the course is such that he doesn't even rate the prestigious major anymore. When he was asked to rank the four majors, Player replied, "I rate the Open at one, the U.S. Open two, PGA three, and Augusta four." His response received a lot of negative reactions, as there is a common belief in the golf community that the Masters Tournament can't be ranked lower than the second spot.

All the controversies aside, it's not uncommon for Gary Player to make surprising claims. Even if they go against the common belief of the golf community. In fact, he made another statement recently that may have shocked a few netizens.

Gary Player doesn't shy away from speaking his mind

It's not uncommon for Gary Player to make surprising claims or reveal shocking information. Many were surprised when he confirmed that he was in love again at 89 back in late 2024 and revealed his new girlfriend, Susan, to the world. A few weeks later, on Valentine's Day, he shared a beautiful montage slideshow on Instagram dedicated to his late wife, Vivienne Verwey, as he celebrated their relationship.

Only a few hours ago, another one of Player's interviews revealed that he said something even more surprising. He stated, "In 1953, when I started it, I was condemned. Arnold Palmer, my brother, said, 'Gary, you can't do this weight training.' Bobby Jones said, 'Gary, you can't do all this weight training. You're going to get muscle-bound. You won't win tournaments after 35.' Well, they're all dead and I'm still going." Even though Gary Player's statement about Arnold Palmer & Bobby Jones is true, his bluntness often takes many by surprise as he continues to live with a free mind like he always did.

TORONTO (AP) — One loss from elimination, the Los Angeles Dodgers are shaking up their lineup again for Game 6 of the World Series at Toronto on Friday night.

After moving from second to third in the order in Wednesday's Game 5 loss, shortstop Mookie Betts dropped into the cleanup spot Friday against Blue Jays right-hander Kevin Gausman.

Betts had not hit as low as fourth since the final game of the 2017 American League Division Series against Houston.

Game 5 was the first time since 2021 that Betts started but wasn't in one of the top two spots in Los Angeles' lineup. Betts is 3 for 23 with no RBIs and no extra-base hits in the World Series.

Catcher Will Smith was set to bat second for the second straight game. Freddie Freeman moved from fourth to third.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he wanted to give leadoff hitter Shohei Ohtani, Smith and Freeman the chance to get on base in front of Betts, adding that Betts had a good day of work on Thursday's off day.

"Where his swing is at mechanically is as good as it's been in a week," Roberts said. "I really feel good about that."

Tommy Edman moved from second base to center field, his first outfield start this postseason, and was set to bat eighth. Miguel Rojas made his first start of the World Series at second base, batting ninth.

"I just really wanted Miggy in there," Roberts said. "He's been a glue guy for our club this year and I just feel that having him in the lineup infuses some extra intensity and energy into the lineup, on the defensive side, too."

The Dodgers shuffled their lineup before Game 5 but had just four hits in a 6-1 loss. Los Angeles had six hits in a 6-2 defeat in Game 4.

Los Angeles is batting .236 as a team through 15 games this October. Dodgers batters have struck out 148 times in 533 at-bats.

Roberts also said Ohtani would not be available to pitch Friday. Ohtani took the loss in Tuesday's Game 4, allowing four runs and six hits in six innings.

Shea Couleé didn't come to play with petty fans, she came to slay the trolls questioning her status as one of the all-time *RuPaul's Drag Race* greats.

RuPaul shook the *All Stars 7 *competition Friday by awarding Shea with three Legendary Legend Stars instead of the usual single-star prize, thus boosting her from last place into one of the top four slots in the upcoming finale. Now, the season 9 alum exclusively tells EW's BINGE podcast (below) how she feels about "fans" attempting to invalidate her progress.

"Immediately, I was already thinking that I want to be in the finale, but I had this gut feeling that for me there will be people who want to discredit or disagree," Shea says of feeling anxiety over the situation during production. "I had to go in there and focus and live up to the agreement that I made to myself that no matter what I was going to give 100 percent, and that's what I did."

The *All Stars 5* champion adds that the three-star twist initially felt like a "strange handout" for her show-stopping variety show performance of her original song "Your Name," but only because Shea is "hard on [her]self" in the context of a competition.

RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars

"People [are questioning], 'Did she really deserve those three stars?' I already knew that discourse would happen, and I felt in the moment like, here we go, if I win these, it almost feels like I won't be able to win because people who are fans of the other contestants are immediately going to try to discredit my win," she remembers, later stressing that there's no way for fans to have the full scope of experience that the queens have while filming episodes for hours on end.

"We were the ones who were there for the whole experience," she continues. "There's so much, so I have to finally separate myself and my personal experience and the perception delivered to the fans, because they're forming their opinions based off of what they see.... I can understand how they feel that way. Going as far as to say what someone does or doesn't deserve, that's not language I'd personally use in my life, but I have different experiences than these fans. These fans don't know what it's like."

**Warning: This article contains spoilers for *Fast X*.**

As* The Fast Saga* speeds into its final lap, the franchise is pulling out all of its biggest tricks and most emotional moments on the way to the finish line. *Fast X* packs in a double-crossing twist, multiple cliffhangers, two huge returns, and even a death in the Toretto family.

"It's been 20 years, almost a quarter of a century with these characters, this family," director Louis Leterrier says on EW's *BINGE: The Fast Saga* podcast. "They have done so much for so many people, and also have fought so many enemies that now people are coming back after them. They are going to have to pay the heaviest price, you know, just the heftiest price. Tears are going to be shed."

The first major cost to Dominic Toretto's (Vin Diesel) crew comes in the form of an epic sacrifice. After gleeful villain Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa) swipes Little Brian (Leo Abelo Perry) right off of a moving vehicle, his brother Jakob (John Cena) turns his custom cannon car into a bomb to prevent an attack on Dom and give him a chance to rescue his son. The heroic Hail Mary sees Jakob go out in a literal blaze of glory.

(from left) Little Brian (Leo Abelo Perry, back to camera) and Jakob (John Cena) in Fast X, directed Louis Leterrier.

Jakob's death helps complete the character's arc for Leterrier. "[I thought], what if we really leaned into this relationship with Little B and this uncle who never experienced love or hasn't experienced love in a long time?" he tells EW. "And then that comes through via his nephew and just the awkwardness that turns into love, and [there's] just that moment where he feels he really accepts the responsibility of being a part of this family."

When approaching Cena, Leterrier admits he wasn't sure at first how the actor would respond to the idea. Cena could tell. "I remember [Louis] being extremely nervous because what that signifies is something that could elicit a reaction from me," he says. "But what he failed to realize is my perspective of every opportunity is to allow me to do the best I can with this opportunity. And that's it. And his idea was the best. And I'm a big believer in best idea wins."

Still, as the newest member of the family exits, an old favorite gets to make a surprise return to the land of the living: Gisele.

Fast & Furious 6 (2013) GAL GADOT as Gisele

Gal Gadot in 2013's 'Fast & Furious 6'. Giles Keyte/Universal

A decade earlier, Gisele (Gal Gadot) made her own sacrifice to save Han (Sung Kang) in 2013's *Fast & Furious 6*. Han would eventually meet his death in 2006's *The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift —* in a bit of timeline trickery that's now become central to *The Fast Saga*'s lore — only for fans to learn in *F9* that Han's death had been faked by Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell), bringing his character back into the fold. Now it seems that both halves of the franchise's most tragic love story have been alive the whole time.

Kang is excited about all the possibilities it creates for the future, including potentially showcasing more intimacy in Han and Gisele's scenes together. "What are those quiet moments when two people are missing each other? How do they change? How do you engage in conversation, and where do you find that shorthand again in a relationship? Is it distant? Is it intimate right away? Is it like becoming friends again, earning that friendship? So, there's so much."

It was important to Leterrier, though, to make sure Gisele was returning for a purpose. "There was no bringing back Gisele without knowing where we were taking her and what was going to happen in the next one and how involved was she going to be," he says. "Gal was very clear with us, which was like, 'Yeah, you know, I love it, and this is my family, but what's the plan?' So obviously we had to think hard, but luckily we had."

Fast Five

Vin Diesel and The Rock in 'Fast Five'. Jaimie Trueblood/Universal Pictures

The reveal that Dante Reyes has his sights set on Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs is arguably an even bigger surprise. Johnson previously said he wouldn't return for the franchise's ninth and tenth installments after reports of conflict between him and Diesel, but his mid-credits scene in *Fast X* suggests he's had a change of heart about *The Fast Saga*'s grand finale.

"It's a great kind of reflection on life and how movies can maybe be a teaching moment, give you opportunities to learn from your heroes," says Kang. "Like, oh, they squashed that. What was that about? Like, I don't even remember that. Like, what was the problem?"

Despite the return of both Gisele and Hobbs, Leterrier makes one thing clear: "Not everyone is going to come back though."

Remember, *Fast X* is still just part one of the franchise's long goodbye, and the stakes will only get higher. "At one point, this model is not going to be able to continue," says Leterrier. "And that point is very soon."

McDonald's rounding cash transactions as some locations run short of pennies

The most recent business feeling the penny pinch? McDonald's.

With the U.S. Mint having made its last pennies two months ago, some stores and retailers including Kroger, Home Depot and Kwik Shop have begun to run short of pennies. Now, the penny shortage has hit McDonald's.

Some McDonald's locations in certain parts of the U.S. have run short of pennies and have begun rounding cash transactions up or down to the nearest five cents when customers don't have exact change, the company told USA Today.

"Following the discontinuation of pennies nationwide, some McDonald's locations may not be able to provide exact change," McDonald's said in a statement. "We have a team actively working on long-term solutions to keep things simple and fair for customers. This is an issue affecting all retailers across the country, and we will continue to work with the federal government to obtain guidance on this matter going forward."

Money matters: With grocery prices rising, here's how shoppers are saving money

McDonald's is running short of pennies. So, how are cash payments being handled?

When a customer pays cash and doesn't have exact change, the purchase total is rounded down by as much as two cents or up by as much two cents. So, if your lunch meal cost $12.06, for example, and you didn't have exact change and the restaurant didn't have pennies, you'd be charged $12.05. If your meal was $9.39, the total would be round up to $9.40.

The rounding only affects cash payments – the majority of McDonald's transactions in the U.S made by credit card or other cashless payments made in the McDonald's app, for instance.

Restaurants may ask customers to use exact change or cashless payment options, the company said.

This rounding practice isn't new and has been used in other countries such as Australia, Canada and New Zealand where low-denomination coins have been eliminated. Some have round up while others have round down, according to Money.com.

Why is there a shortage of pennies?

Technically, the U.S. is not short of pennies; about 250 billion pennies are in circulation. But there have been "localized supply issues," according to the American Banking Association.

The end of the penny came after President Donald Trump told the Treasury Department in February to stop making the coins, which cost more than 3 cents to produce. (They cost 3.69 cents to make, according to the U.S. Mint.)

With the U.S. Mint having made its final pennies, some shortages are happening because roughly one-third of the about 165 Federal Reserve coin terminal facilities – where coins are distributed and deposited – have stopped penny transactions, the ABA said. The "supply issues" are likely in parts of the country where those terminals have stopped circulating pennies, the organization said.

This story has been with new information.
